Sandy and Gail tour Ecuador, a country named after its location on the equator. Initially, they visit Quito and its surroundings in the high Sierra. They visit the cloud forest and overnight at stunning haciendas, and they marvel at the many species of beautiful hummingbirds. Then they fly to Amazonia, where they paddle to a remote lodge run by the indigenous people. They hike through the jungle, thick with heliconia and exotic fauna, and visit the local shaman. Finally, they fly to the Galapagos, where they experience close encounters with the sea lions, boobies, marine iguanas, wingless cormorants, and penguins.
