InSight - A Farmer's Legacy - Thomas Dove Keizur

Show Details

No sooner did Thomas Dove Keizur cross the Willamette River in November, 1843 after a long journey from Missouri on the Oregon Trail did he become part of Oregon’s new provisional government. And after that a Captain in the Oregon Rangers. The vast Oregon Territory was officially formed in 1846. Oregon wanted to lay claim to land also wanted by the British. It was a lot to ask of a man who, as Keizer Heritage Museum volunteer historian Tammy Wild said, only wanted good farmland, a place to raise his family of 10 children with his wife Mary, and breed Morgan horses. Thanks to a generous grant from the Oregon State Capitol Foundation Tammy created an online exhibit hosted by the OSCF through September, 2024, and then through Keizer Heritage Museum. This episode is a fascinating glimpse into the life and times of Thomas Keizer, whose memory lives on from his early settlement days to the city that bears his name.
