Travel with Sandy and Gail: West Africa - Ghana, Togo, and Benin Episode 27

Show Details

Sandy and Gail experience culture shock in Ghana, Togo, and Benin, countries that were at the center of the African slave trade. Led by an experienced and well connected Ghanaian tour guide, Sandy and Gail visit villages in which life has been unchanged over the centuries. Inhabitants crush by hand yams to prepare a West African staple, fufu, and derive their protein by eating rats. They worship animist deities and perform animal sacrifices. Without a question, however, observing and in some cases participating in the ceremonies of the Voodoo religion constituted the most interesting experiences of the trip.
