(2025-EP14) Juneteenth became a national holiday in 2021, and Salem is creating its own events surrounding this commemoration of June 19, 1865, the day African-Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom. Ashley Dunn, vice-president of the Salem-Keizer chapter of the NAACP and Kylie Pine, Willamette Heritage Center's curator, speak of their organization's Juneteenth events, and offer perspective on its importance in America's history, then and now.
