Willamette Institute for Continued Learning - Crescendo: A Memoir in Music and Stories

Program Description

"Crescendo is a one-woman show created and performed by violinist Anthea Kreston. The performance delves into themes of identity, resilience and the transformative power of music. Through a blend of storytelling, personal anecdotes, and musical interludes, Kreston shares her journey as an artist and the challenges she has faced along the way. The show highlights her experiences as a woman in a male- dominated classical music world, as well as her reflections on creativity and connection. Her engaging style and musical talent aim to captivate audiences and provoke thought about the role of art in personal and societal transformation. Anthea Kreston grew up in Chicago and began playing the violin at age two. She has a degree from the Curtis Institute of Music Performance in Philadelphia, as well as a BA in Women Studies from Cleveland State University and a Master of Music from the University of Hartford. Her memoir, Crescendo, is slated to be published by Paul Dry Books, out of Philadelphia in the spring of 2027. Anthea is currently a violinist with the Delgani String Quartet, the executive and artistic director of Majestic Chamber Music Series as well as Inside Music Academy, a ground-breaking virtual music school. Anthea was the first American violinist to play in a major European string quartet, and she travelled the world, performing at some of the most legendary stages. She toured for years with Yo-Yo Ma as as part of his Silk Road Project."
